What's In A Name?

St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral

The Angel Gabriel had announced to both Mary and Joseph that the baby conceived in her by the Holy Spirit would be named “Jesus” because He would save the people from their sins. Without knowledge of how this could be possible, they nevertheless took him to the temple to be circumcised on the eight day after his birth in keeping with the Law of Moses, and to be named. On this Sunday, January 1, we celebrate the naming of Jesus and the salvation He offers through an incredibly loving relationship! We are loved, forgiven and freed from despair, shame, fear and other weaknesses, as we continue to let his love and grace change us. A sermon by Rev. Rowena White
