Children During Worship
Nursery, Chapel and Prime Time Nursery (for infants six weeks old until they are potty trained): St. Mark’s nursery, located on the second floor across from the Parish Hall, provides a safe, nurturing environment for our youngest children. Staffed by trained childcare workers, the nursery is a two-room suite with separate areas for infants and toddlers. Parents drop their children off before the 10:00 Eucharist begins and have the option of picking them up in time for the entire family to receive communion together or leaving them in the nursery until the end of church.
Children’s Chapel (for children who are potty trained through kindergarten): When children outgrow the nursery, they move to Children’s Chapel, an age-appropriate worship service that includes music, Bible stories, arts and crafts, and a snack. Parents drop their children off in room 102 on the first floor of the Ministry Center before the 10:00 Eucharist begins and have the option of picking them up in time for the entire family to receive communion together or leaving them in Children’s Chapel until the end of church.
Prime Time for Kids (for children in 1st-3rd grade): Led by volunteer teachers from within the congregation, Prime Time is a child-oriented Bible lesson based on the Sunday lectionary. Children in first through third grade come to the Cathedral with their families for the 10:00 Eucharist. At the Gradual Hymn they process out to a nearby room and return to their families at the Offertory.
Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals
BaptismOur new life in Jesus Christ begins with the Sacrament of Baptism. Our fallen souls are regenerated. The Holy Spirit comes to dwell in us. That Spirit remains with us helping us to grow in the knowledge, love and service of our Lord. We are incorporated into the Body of Christ—the Church—as heirs of his eternal promises and ambassadors of his Good News.
Baptisms take place at the 10:00 service on Sundays designated by the Dean. To schedule a Baptism for one of those dates, please call our Administrative Assistant Liz Montelepre at (318) 221-3360. She will tell you about the available dates as well as the dates for required pre-baptismal instruction for parents and, when available, godparents and grandparents. You may download the baptismal form here and return it to the office or bring it with you to pre-baptismal instruction.
WeddingsWe are delighted that you are considering being married at St. Mark’s Cathedral. Holy Matrimony is a Sacrament of the Church, and as such it involves the pledge of support by one’s congregation.
Accordingly, weddings at St. Mark’s are reserved for members of our congregation, members of their family, and members of our St. Mark’s Cathedral School community.
Before contacting the Cathedral about a wedding, you or your family must have been a member in one of the ways just described for at least six (6) months. Additionally, members of parishes and missions of the Diocese of Western Louisiana may approach their own clergy about having their wedding at the Cathedral when circumstances require this space.
Clergy in the Diocese of Western Louisiana may contact the Dean of the Cathedral to seek permission to solemnize a wedding at the Cathedral if the Cathedral calendar can accommodate the wedding. Before setting a date for your wedding, please make certain to contact the Cathedral to check with our calendar and the availability of worship space.
Please, read our Wedding Wedding Customary. Premarital instruction is required.
FuneralsThe Clergy of the Cathedral will meet with you to prearrange your own funeral plans or to plan the funeral liturgy when a loved one has died. Please call the office to speak to the Dean at (318) 221-3360.
Please know that the Dean always wants to know when someone is near death and wants, whenever possible, to come for final prayers. Do not hesitate to call at any time of day or night.
