The music and activities will be based upon the curriculum used by the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM).  The camp will be directed by Bryan T. Mitnaul, St. Mark’s Canon for Cathedral Music. VBS is open to all children who turned 3 by January 1, 2013 (must be potty-trained), up through kids who complete 5th grade this spring.  The cost, which includes a t-shirt, is $20 per child if you register by May 31, and $25 per child after that date.  Children of VBS staff attend for free.  To register and pay online, go to our website (www.stmarkscathedral.net) and click on event registration.
There are many opportunities for adults and teenagers to help with VBS:
•   Donate breakfast for the staff
•   Help with preparations and decorations
•   Serve as krewe leaders or assist with activities (games, snacks, art, Bible
    story, music)

Remember that service hours for youth are available.

All adults and teens who will be working as staff should plan to attend a mandatory training session on Sunday, July 14, immediately following the
10:00 a.m. service.  Lunch will be provided.

Early Check-In:  Once again this year parents will have the opportunity to check-in their children the day before VBS begins.  Immediately following the 10:00 a.m. service on July 14, VBS staff will be available to distribute t-shirts, review paperwork, take photos for nametags, and handle any other last-minute details for all pre-registered participants.  This means that when you drop your kids off at VBS the next morning, they can go directly to their group and will not have to wait in line to get started with the fun.

Our last Young Families and Singles Potluck before summer – is this Saturday from 5:00 till 7:00 p.m. at Milbank Park in Twelve Oaks Subdivision. Hosts are Jill and Brian Carnie. Bring folding chairs and blankets.

Come join the fun at our Pentecost Picnic – this Sunday, May 19 right after the 10:00 am service. Wear red that day, dress casually and join us for hot dogs, ice cream and cake. We’ll have jumpies for the kids and great fellowship for the adults.

St. Mark’s Canon for Cathedral Music, Bryan Mitnaul, will present an organ recital - this Friday, May 3 at the Cathedral of St. John Berchman’s . The recital begins at 12:40 pm and features works of Bach, Buxtehude, Vaughan-Williams, Karg-Elert and Guilmant. A light lunch will be served after the performance. The event is free and open to the public.

We welcome our Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Jake Owensby, this Sunday, May 5 -  at the 10:00 am service. Bishop Jake will be confirming the members of both our adult and youth confirmation classes.  Sunday will also be Youth Sunday as we honor our graduating seniors.

    1. Cook hotdogs/hamburgers.  They need 8 volunteers to cook beginning at 9:00 a.m.
    2. Provide desserts (cookies/brownies/etc).  These can be dropped off at the church Thursday, April 25.
    3. Volunteers needed at 4:00 p.m. to help tear down and clean up.

This class focuses on awareness and prevention of sexual abuse and is required by the Episcopal Church for anyone who works in the church as a volunteer or paid professional with children or youth. The Diocesan Commission on Youth and Young Adult Ministry  - is raffling off free camp and retreat sessions at Camp Hardtner as part of next month’s Taste of Hardtner event. The event is scheduled for May 24-26 at the camp and features family events, food and live music. Raffle tickets are $20 each. C.I.A. will be celebrating the end of their year with a fish fry – this Sunday from 12:30 until 3:30 pm at Elizabeth and Sean Peterson’s home. In addition to our 4th and 5th graders, all 3rd graders are invited. Middle School EYC and Youth leader Brooks Boylan will also be there to welcome the 5th graders to EYC. Dean Alston begins a new Christian Formation class this Sunday – on The Apostles’ Creed. Over the course of 10-12 sessions we will both view lectures and have conversation about the origin of The Apostles’ Creed as well as its relevance to our lives today.  The series is moderated by Dr. Timothy George, Dean of Beeson Divinity School, Samford University. We will meet immediately after the 10:00 am service in the Ministry Center garden Room.
Dr. Helen Taylor from LSUS continues teaching Geoffrey Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales as Pilgrimage and Protest in the Ministry Center Room 101. Patrick Caraway teaches the Adult Confirmation class in the church library.

St. Luke’s Episcopal Mobile Medical Ministry would like to invite medical professionals - to a lunch and short informational session this Sunday at 12:30 pm in the Parish Hall. The meeting is for all medical professionals, including physicians, nurses, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, social workers, and allied health professionals. Bells will be ringing on Thursday, April 11 - when  St. Mark’s will be visited by a group of expert change ringers from across North America.  Ringers will ring a peal in late afternoon, led by an accomplished conductor from England, who will then tutor our ringers for their weekly practice.  As you arrive for the Parish Dinner, take a minute to listen to the bells rung by some of the best change ringers on the continent! 

Our Communion Celebration class will be recognized this Sunday at the 10:00 am service. – A reception for these children and their parents will be held in the Parlor immediately after the service.

The 307th Bomb Wing at Barksdale Air Force Base is having a Family Day – on Saturday, April 27 and they need help from the community! There are several ways to help:
    1. Cook hotdogs/hamburgers.  They need 8 volunteers to cook beginning at 9:00 a.m.
    2. Provide desserts (cookies/brownies/etc).  These can be dropped off at the church Thursday, April 25.
    3. Volunteers needed at 4:00 p.m. to help tear down and clean up.

St Mark’s choirs, soloists and orchestra will present the Easter portion of Messiah by Georg Friderich Handel (1685-1759) -on Sunday, April 28 at 4:00 p.m. The concert will be free and open to the public.

St. Mark’s will host a Diabetes Academy – on Thursday, April 18 from 6:00 till 7:30 pm featuring major league baseball hall-of-famer Lou Brock. Mr. Brock will speak on his diagnosis with type 2 Diabetes and how he manages it in his day to day life. The event takes place in the Ministry Center.
